Express Entry

Canada Express Entry

The Fast-Track to Canadian Permanent Residency

Express Entry is not a visa itself, but an online application management system used by Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) to select skilled workers for permanent residency. It is renowned for its speed, with most applications processed in 6 months or less.

⚠️ CRITICAL UPDATE: Category-Based Selection

IRCC has fundamentally changed how invitations are issued. While a high CRS score is still important, Canada now prioritizes candidates with specific attributes over raw scores.

Priority Categories for 2026:
French Proficiency
Healthcare
STEM Professions
Trades
Transport
Agriculture

The Three Economic Programs

Federal Skilled Worker (FSW)

For skilled workers with foreign work experience. Requires a minimum score of 67/100 on the selection grid to even enter the pool.

  • Min. 1 year continuous work exp.
  • Language: CLB 7 (English/French).
  • Proof of Settlement Funds required.

Canadian Experience Class (CEC)

For workers who have already gained skilled work experience inside Canada.

  • Min. 1 year Canadian work exp.
  • No Settlement Funds required.
  • Popular for international graduates & TFWs.

Federal Skilled Trades (FST)

For qualified workers in specific trade occupations (e.g., electricians, plumbers, chefs).

  • Min. 2 years trade experience.
  • Must have a Valid Job Offer OR Certificate of Qualification.
  • Lower language threshold (CLB 5/4).

How the Process Works

The Express Entry system is points-based. The process is entirely electronic.

1
Create a Profile

We assess your eligibility and create an Express Entry profile. You are assigned a CRS Score (Comprehensive Ranking System) based on age, education, language, and experience.

2
Wait in the Pool

You join the pool of candidates. You can improve your rank by retaking language tests, gaining more experience, or securing a Provincial Nomination (+600 points).

3
Invitation to Apply (ITA)

Every 2 weeks, IRCC holds a “draw.” If your CRS score is above the cutoff (or if you fit a Priority Category), you receive an ITA.

4
Submit Application

You have 60 days to submit your full application with all police certificates, medical exams, and employment letters.

Strategic Tip: The PNP “Super Visa”

Is your CRS score too low? (e.g., below 500).
Provincial Nominee Programs (PNPs) aligned with Express Entry—such as OINP (Ontario) or BCPNP (British Columbia)—can issue a “Notification of Interest.” If nominated, you receive an additional 600 CRS points, effectively guaranteeing an Invitation to Apply in the next draw.
