F-1 Student Visa

Academic Study & Change of Status Strategies

The F-1 visa allows international students to pursue a full course of study at an accredited U.S. institution. Whether you are applying from abroad or changing status within the U.S., complying with SEVP regulations is critical.

🚀 2026 Policy Updates: Changing Status in the U.S.

If you are currently in the U.S. (e.g., on B-1/B-2, H-4) and wish to become a student, new USCIS rules have streamlined the process:

Premium Processing Available

You can now pay for 30-day processing (Form I-907) for F-1 Change of Status applications, ensuring you don’t miss your semester start date.

“Bridge the Gap” Eliminated

You no longer need to file separate B-2 extensions to cover the gap between your current visa expiry and the school start date, provided your status was valid when you filed.

Eligibility Requirements

Academic Admission

Must be accepted by an SEVP-certified college, university, or language program (Form I-20 issued).

Financial Capability

Must prove sufficient liquid funds to cover tuition + living expenses for the first academic year without unauthorized employment.

Intent & Ties

Must demonstrate ties to your home country. *Note: New guidance allows F-1 students to be beneficiaries of PERM petitions (Dual Intent Clarification).
